Dating safety tips
Most people on Levelswipe are regular people looking for someone. But you’re still meeting strangers, so a little caution goes a long way.
LEVELSWIPE DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS ON ITS MEMBERS.
Every member has confirmed an email address and a phone number and paid for a membership. That keeps out a lot of fake accounts, but it doesn’t prove who someone is.
In an emergency, call 911.
Online dating safety awareness
- Anyone who is able to commit identity theft can also falsify a dating profile.
- There is no substitute for acting with caution when communicating with any stranger who wants to meet you.
- Never include your last name, email address, home address, phone number, place of work, or any other identifying information in your profile or first messages. Stop communicating with anyone who pressures you for personal or financial information or tries in any way to trick you into revealing it.
- Keep the conversation on Levelswipe at first. If something goes wrong, you can block and report them right there.
- Video chat before you meet. It’s the easiest way to check that someone looks like their photos.
Protecting yourself from financial crimes
- Never send money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, bank details or card numbers to someone you haven’t met in person, whatever the story: a medical emergency, a stuck shipment, a customs fee, a plane ticket to come and see you.
- Be wary of anyone who won’t video chat, says “I love you” fast, wants to move off Levelswipe right away, has a sudden crisis, or offers to teach you about investing or crypto. Those are the classic signs of a romance scam.
- Never share your login, one-time codes, or photos you wouldn’t want shared.
- If you already sent money, contact your bank immediately, then report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and ic3.gov, and report the profile to us.
- If we remove an account for fraud, we email everyone who exchanged messages with it. Take that email seriously.
Meeting in person
- If you choose to have a face-to-face meeting with another member, always tell someone in your family or a friend where you are going and when you will return.
- Never agree to be picked up at your home. Always provide your own transportation to and from your date.
- Meet in a public place with many people around.
- Keep your phone charged and with you.
- Know your limits with alcohol, and never leave your drink unattended.
- You can leave at any time, for any reason. Trust your gut.
Respect and consent
- Consent has to be clear and freely given, and it can be taken back at any time. If you’re not sure, ask.
- “No,” “not now” and silence all mean stop. Never pressure anyone, and walk away from anyone who pressures you.
Block and report
- In the app, tap ⋯ on a profile or in a chat to unmatch, block or report. You can report and block at the same time.
- Report anyone who harasses you, asks for money, seems to be under 18 or uses a fake profile. We review every report and remove people who break our rules.
- Blocking deletes your chat. If someone threatened or scammed you, take screenshots first.
- For anything urgent, also email support@levelswipe.com. If a crime happened, contact the police first.
