Privacy Policy
The short version
- We collect only what Levelswipe needs to work.
- No ads, no trackers, and we never sell your data.
- Other members see your first name, age, photos, bio, the city you list and roughly how far away you are. Never your email, phone number, birthdate or exact location.
- You can delete your account any time in Settings, and your data goes with it.

1. What we collect
- Waitlist. If you join the waitlist: your email, your city, and which link brought you to the site (for example, a link we shared on social media).
- Account. Your email, a password (stored scrambled, so we can’t read it), first name, birthdate, gender, who you want to see, your age and distance filters, your choice of miles or kilometers, and your confirmation that you’re 18 or older.
- Profile. Up to 3 photos (shrunk on your device before they’re uploaded), your bio, the city or neighborhood you choose to show, and how you dressed up your bird (its color and accessories), and whether your bird says Single, Taken or Married (everyone starts as Single).
- Taken. Taken is agreed between two members: a request to be taken together (who asked whom, when, and the answer), who you’re taken with and since when, and when it ended and who ended it. If you get engaged in Bird Town: when, the wedding day you picked, and when you got married there. If the person you’re taken with goes single, blocks you, unmatches you or deletes their account, we keep a short note for you (their first name and the date) until you’ve seen it, and email you that you’re single again.
- Location. When you tap “Update location,” your device shares your position. We round it to about 1 km (0.6 miles) before saving it, and use it only to sort and filter people by distance.
- Phone number. Used only to confirm you’re a real person and to allow one account per number. It’s never shown to other members.
- Payments. Which plan you bought, the amount, the date, its status and Stripe’s reference for it. Your card details go straight to Stripe; we never see them.
- What you do in the app. Your chirps and passes, matches, messages, blocks and reports, and when you last used the app (for the 7-day pause).
- Bird Town (the Community). While your bird is in a Bird Town room, our server keeps in its memory which room you’re in, where your bird stands, who is sitting at which game table and how each game stands, and the last few preset phrases and emotes you used there. None of this is saved: it’s gone when you leave, after about 10 quiet minutes, or when the server restarts. If someone reports your bird, the report records the room, the time and those recent phrases and emotes.
- Bird Town dates. When you invite one of your mutual chirps on a date: who invited whom, the place, the time, the answer, and when the date ended and who ended it. For a sunset walk planned for a proposal, whether the answer was yes or not yet. What happens on a date (where your birds walk, what they say) isn’t saved, like everywhere else in Bird Town; your chat beside the date is your normal chat.
- Support. Whatever you send us when you email us.
- Technical data. Like any website, our server sees your IP address and basic browser and device details. These may be kept briefly in server logs to keep Levelswipe secure and to fix problems.
The demo runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type or upload there is sent to us.
2. How we use it
- To run Levelswipe: build your Wheel, show your profile, match you, deliver messages, and pause and un-pause profiles.
- To do the three account checks (email, payment and phone).
- To keep members safe: review reports, enforce our Terms, and keep removed members from coming back.
- To email you about your account (confirmations, receipts and important changes) and, if you joined the waitlist, to tell you when Levelswipe launches near you. Waitlist emails include an unsubscribe link.
- To answer you when you contact us, and to meet legal obligations.
What we don’t do: show ads, rank or score members, or sell or share your personal information for advertising.
3. What other members see
- Your first name, age (not your birthdate), photos, bio, your bird’s look, the city or neighborhood you list, and roughly how far away you are, only as a band (like “1–5 mi”). Never your exact distance or location, and never on a map.
- If you chirp at someone, you show up in their Chorus, and your bird sings when they reach you on their Wheel. Once you both chirp, you can message each other.
- In Bird Town (the Community), members in the same room see your bird, your first name, whether your bird says Single, Taken or Married, where your bird is in the room, the games you play there and the preset phrases and emotes you use. They don’t see your photos, age, city or distance there, and tapping your bird doesn’t open your profile. People you’ve blocked, or who blocked you, never see you there.
- Dates are private: only the person you invited (or who invited you) sees your invite, and only the two of you are in the room. A wedding happens on the public beach, so members there see the flower arch, your two first names and that you got married, and afterwards your bird’s tag says Married.
- Never shown: your email, phone number, birthdate, exact location, or who you passed on.
- While your bird says Taken, you’re not shown on anyone’s Wheel or Chorus and nobody can chirp at you; your mutual chirps and chats stay as they are. The person you’re taken with sees that you’re taken with them; everyone else only sees “Taken”. Going single puts you both back on the Wheel, and the other person is told that you went single.
- Your gender and “Show me” choices aren’t shown on your profile, but they decide whose Wheel you appear on. Together they may suggest your sexual orientation, so we use them for that purpose only.
4. Who we share it with
We share only what each service needs to do its job for Levelswipe:
- DigitalOcean hosts our server and stores Levelswipe’s data.
- Stripe handles payments.
- Twilio texts your phone confirmation code.
- Brevo sends account and waitlist emails.
- Our email providers deliver the emails you send to support@levelswipe.com.
We may also share information if the law requires it (for example, a valid court order; see Law enforcement requests), to protect someone from serious harm, or as part of a sale or transfer of Levelswipe. If Levelswipe changes hands, we’ll tell you before your information moves, and this policy will still apply to it.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for targeted advertising.
5. Cookies and tracking
- No ad cookies, no analytics trackers and no third-party scripts.
- The app saves your login in your browser so you stay logged in, and remembers whether you turned chirp sounds on or off on that device.
- When you pay, you’re on Stripe’s own checkout page, which follows Stripe’s privacy policy.
- Do Not Track: we don’t track you across other websites, and we don’t let anyone else do it through Levelswipe. So there’s nothing for a Do Not Track signal to switch off, and every visitor is treated the same way.
6. How long we keep it
- Your account: as long as you have one. A profile that isn’t used for 7 days is paused, not deleted.
- When you delete your account, we immediately delete your profile, photos, chirps and passes, matches, messages, blocks, being taken together (and any engagement or Bird Town marriage), your dates, the reports you made and your payment records from our database. Conversations you were in disappear for the other person too.
- Backups: copies may stay in our backups for up to 90 days before they’re replaced.
- Payments: Stripe keeps its own payment records, as financial laws require.
- Removed members: if we remove an account for breaking our rules, we keep a scrambled (hashed) form of its email address and phone number, plus the first name and the reason, so it can’t sign up again. If the account was removed for fraud, we also email the members who exchanged messages with it, as the law requires.
- Waitlist: until Levelswipe launches near you and you’ve had a chance to join, or until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Bird Town positions and games: never stored. Where your bird walks, which room it’s in and the games at the tables are only kept in memory while you’re there.
- Bird Town dates: an invite and its answer are deleted 90 days after the date, or straight away when either of you deletes your account.
- Server logs: a short time, then they’re deleted automatically.
- Legal requests: if a valid preservation request or court order covers an account, we keep a copy of the data it covers for as long as the request requires (see Law enforcement requests).
7. Your choices and rights
- See and change your profile, photos, filters and location any time in the app.
- Delete your account any time in Settings.
- Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it. Email support@levelswipe.com from your account’s email address and we’ll reply within 30 days. We may need to confirm it’s really you.
- Unsubscribe from waitlist emails with the link in any of them.
- We won’t treat you differently for using any of these rights.
8. Adults only
Levelswipe is only for people 18 and older. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a member is under 18, we delete the account. If you think someone is under 18, report them in the app or email us.
9. Keeping it safe
Every page is encrypted with HTTPS, passwords are stored scrambled, and our server only accepts logins made with a security key. We collect as little as we can. No system is perfectly secure, though, so if you spot a problem, please tell us at support@levelswipe.com. If a breach affects your information, we’ll tell you as the law requires.
10. Where it’s stored
Levelswipe’s server is in the United States (San Francisco). Some of our service providers may process data in other countries.
11. Law enforcement requests
This is how Levelswipe handles requests for member information from police, prosecutors and other government agencies.
- Legal process required. We share member information with law enforcement only when the law requires it, for example in response to a valid subpoena, court order or search warrant, or in an emergency (below). We check every request, and we may push back on one that is unclear, too broad or not legally valid.
- How to send a request. Email support@levelswipe.com from an official government email address, with “Law enforcement request” in the subject line. Include your name, agency, badge or ID number and phone number; a copy of the legal process; the email address or phone number of the Levelswipe account; and exactly what information you’re asking for. We may call your agency to confirm a request is genuine.
- Emergencies. If someone faces an imminent risk of death or serious physical injury, put “EMERGENCY” in the subject line and describe the situation. We put emergency requests first, answer them as quickly as we can, and may share the information needed to prevent the harm without a court order, as federal law allows.
- Preservation. If you send an official preservation request, we’ll save a copy of the account’s current data for 90 days while you get legal process, and for another 90 days if you renew the request.
- Telling the member. We tell members about requests for their information before we share it, unless the law or a court order forbids it, or telling them could put someone at risk of harm.
- What we have. Only what’s listed in section 1, for as long as section 6 says. Our database doesn’t hold members’ phone numbers, only a scrambled (hashed) version and the last 4 digits, and card numbers stay with Stripe. Deleted accounts are removed from our database right away and from our backups within 90 days.
- Child safety. We report apparent child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), as federal law requires, and remove the account.
- Requests from outside the US need to come through a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) or another process recognized by US courts.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version here with a new date. For important changes, we’ll email members before the changes take effect.
